GROOMING- I cannot express the importance of proper grooming for the competitions. Part of the overall mark received by the dance group, is their “over all” appearance.  Costume/hair/make-up. You will be given instructions as to hair and make-up during class in the next few weeks. Please, please practice, to make sure you have the technique down!

NEW this year!!!!! We have an INSTRUCTIONAL “how to” video for stage make up on the website!

MAKE-UP KIT- You will all be responsible for your own make-up and hair grooming supplies. I have made a check list of the essential items you will need in your kit.

EYESHADOW- brown & cream/white

FALSE EYE LASHES # 111- check with instructor if needed

LIPSTICK- red / pink/ mocha [check with your instructors for your groups colour]

EYELINER- liquid black – “felt tip”  works the best

WHITE EYELINER – liquid white liner

 Please note, that the quality of the makeup is not important. I do not expect you to spend a fortune. Try brands like N.Y.C or Wet & Wild.

HAIR ESSENTIALS- gel, hairspray, bobby pins, comb

EXTRAS- safety pins needle & thread

HAIR & MAKE-UP - Whenever possible, please do your hair and make-up at home. There is less stress and more space at home.

COSTUMES- Always bring your costumes to the theatre and change there! Never wear your costume on route. There are too many things that can happen to the costume from the house to the theatre. Don’t forget to wear you STUDIO UNIFORM to and from the festivals.

MEN- If you are bringing your daughter to the festival, please arrange with one of the Mom’s from your group to assist her in the dressing room. There are NO MEN allowed in these areas. The same goes for the boys and their Mothers, no women in the BOYS dressing room.

CHECK LIST- To help you remember all of the items to bring, make yourself a FESTIVAL check list. Write down all of the pieces of your costume, including dance shoes, tights, hats etc.  Make sure that the list is marked off before you leave for the festival!!!!!

FESTIVAL ETIQUETTE- There is to be absolutely NO PHOTOGRAPHY of any kind! Video or flash. You may take pictures in the lobby & dressing room areas, but NEVER in the theatre. This will result in DISQUALIFICATION!

Any interaction with the adjudicator [judge] is forbidden. Do not approach them. It is very important that there is no noise in the theatre; please remove small children if they become loud. Unless it is an emergency, please do not enter or exit the theatre during a routine. Please note that there are professional DVD’s and photos available. We DO provide this same service at our Year End Recital. You may want to wait and get ALL the excitement and routines on 1 DVD instead of spending at each festival!

 $$$$$- The theatres themselves may charge an entrance fee ranging from $2- $10.

FOOD- There may or may not be a concession at the theatre. Please come prepared with a healthy snack and drinks.

CD- Always have a copy of your dance music on CD, and bring it with you. We must have back up if something happens to the studio copies!!!

GUESTS- There is not always a lot of room for guests in the audience. It is advisable to have grandparents and other guests come to the year end recital on June 9 & 10 2012

 A DAY AT THE FESTIVAL:

You will arrive at the theatre at the time given to you in your STUDIO UNIFORM. Please have make-up and hair done. Meet the other members of your group in the dressing room area. Your teacher will meet you there. You will get changed into your costume, then have a quick warm up.

The group, volunteer parent and teacher will go back stage. All other parents will go in to the theatre to watch the performance.Students return to parents to watch some of the performances.

At the end of your dance session you will be adjudicated.Students are required to wait for the adjudication results! Very exciting!!
